Woodlesford - Leeds service issues
« on: January 27, 2009, 04:11:15 AM »
This service is becoming increasingly unreliable.
Trains not turning up on a morning and then trains turning up with only 1 carriage.
The Goole service at 1716 which stops in Woodlesford is frequently only allocated 2 carriages and being a peak hour train is annoying when passengers cannot board it and have to wait for the next service!
I have complained numerous times but it seems to go unheard!
Does anyone know how to get through to Northern Rail on this issue and others, it seems they're a problemtaic train provider to all and I personally am fed up standing on a platform, late for work, freezing or getting home later than planned when I'm paying way too much for a poor service.

Hi Deano,

I think the only way is to keep posting in a public forum like this. By bringing all the complaints together in one place and making them public, I'm hoping that this will help raise the profile of the problems and help put pressure on Northern Rail to do something.

It's quite clear that the official reporting mechanisms/processes that should draw attention to and address these problems are flawed since there have been no improvements in the last 3 years.

When i've reported problems in the past via the official procedure to Northern Rail, it's been clear from Northern Rails response that nothing was going to be done - even when the problem was a fairly trivial one.

However, if you do go down this route, if you are unhappy with the response to an official complaint made to Northern Rail, you can then escalate this to Pasenger Focus (info@passengerfocus.org.uk or 08453 022 022)

hope this helps

Hi Richard

Thank you.  I managed to find the email addresses for Northern Rail and Passenger Focus.  Metro also have a form you can fill in online to complain.  I'm currently keeping a weekly diary and emailing it, I think I may bore them to death but maybe it will do something?!  We live in hope!

I agree with you about services from Leeds - Woodlesford need improving.

AM departures are good with 4 in under an hour at

Woddlesford dep 0747, 0804, 0812, 0841.

By comparison the return is only 2 per hour at

Leeds dep 1632, 1716, 1732, 1800, 1832, 1900.

I think a slight improvement would be to put an additional stop in the Leeds - Sheffield/Nottingham at Woodlesford for the services at 1637, 1705 and 1737, this could go some way to improve things.

I dont agree with you about it being overpriced as a anytime return is only £2.65 or £41.90 for a monthly.

Hi Deano,

I've just heard about a passenger who has had his complaint resolved after 18 months of dogged determination. In the end, he resorted to emailing Heidi Mottrum (MD of Northern Rail) directly. It was only after he did this that he felt they had actually had somebody look into his specific complaint rather than just fobbbing him off.

From the experiences i am hearing about, it seems like this is the only way to currently get satisfactory responses to complaints.
