Overcrowding Everyday on Knottingley Train
« on: January 29, 2009, 05:14:29 AM »
Why is it that this line seems to be the worse rail line I have ever commuted on? There is not one evening that i have been able to stand with a little bit of space or sit and I arrive 20mins before the train is due to depart!!? This is the worse service ever and the prices have just increased! Last night (28/01/09) the 1800 train left people on the platform waiting for the next train as only two carriages turned up instead of three! The 1716 train is even worse in the evening, we are treated worse than sheep or cattle are! I was on a train a couple of weeks ago at 1716 and it was so packed I could barely breathe because of the guy who had forced his way to the already over over packed train and I was squashed between the door and him! Is it so hard to put an extra carriage on the 1716 service to 4 instead of 3!

What is going to happen when the new Castleford Tigers Stadium is built near Glasshoughton????

Hi cbax, thanks for posting your feedback and welcome aboard.

I'm sorry to hear that you are also experiencing problems with overcrowding on the service you use.

Earlier this week, the results of the national 2008 passenger focus survey were published. According to the survey only 17% of Northern rail passengers were unhappy or disatisfied when asked if there was sufficient room for passengers to sit or stand!

From my personal experience of using Northern Rail, I can't believe this figure is a true representation of the problem, however it underlines the importance of letting people know how bad things really are by posting details of these problems here.

If we can use these forums to report as many separate incidences of overcrowding as possible, then we can raise the profile of these problems and put pressure to get something done.

Thanks once again for joining  :)

For Woodlesford or Castleford use the Sheffield service at xx32.
For Pontefract Tanshelf, Pontefract Monkhill and Knottingley an alternative is available by catching the xx05 Nottingham service to Wakefield Kirkgate then catch the xx31 service Wakefield to Knottingley.
Journey times from Leeds are
Ponte tanshelf 41 mins
Ponte monkhill 44 mins
Knottingley 52 mins
Journey may be longer depends how much you want a seat.
