the train arrived at Victoria with 2, short carriages which soon became ridiculously overcrowded, resulting in a number of passengers having to catch the next train.

The train also was late departing Manchester Victoria, which didn't help as everybody had to wait with no explanation.

The only redeeming factor was the conductor who remained reasonable, despite how difficult the overcrowding was making his job.

Richard for the most part (If passengers were willing to wait 15 minutes more) the 17:27 service often goes half empty!

I have to disagree with you about the 17.27pm service to Huddersfield being "half empty". I catch this train every day and we are heavily overcrowded just like the train at 16.57pm and 17.15pm so I wouldn't encourage anyone to wait a little longer for this train.
